Chris Curtis (Former Teacher of Classics)

Chris joined Nottingham High School in 1964 and taught Latin, Greek and Ancient History throughout the year groups.

Not only was he a teacher of Classics, but he also took on the organisation of age-group rugby and cricket teams and his involvement with games continued during his time at the school. He was also a regular member of the school choir and sang in many concerts.

In 1985, he became Head of the Lower School and so it was necessary for him to liaise closely with boys’ tutors and with the Preparatory School. In this role he also oversaw and administered the Entrance Exam and chaired the panel which interviewed candidates for entry to the main school.

Chris sat on many school committees and was Chair of the Common Room Committee. Alongside these roles he also found time to go on Classics trips both in the UK and abroad, visiting Greece, Turkey, Italy, Israel and Egypt.

Chris retired from his role in 1996 and was remembered as a friendly and helpful colleague.

Our sincere condolences go to his widow Jane and their three sons, Andrew (ON 1977-1987), Tom (1978-1988) and William (ON 1990-2000).
